What are the types of navigation?
Long-haul navigation: Navigation between Brazilian and foreign ports;
Inland navigation: is that carried out in inland waterways, in national or international route;
Maritime support navigation: it is carried out for the logistical support to vessels and installations in national territorial waters and in the Economic Zone, that act in the activities of research and mining of minerals and hydrocarbons.

What is AFRMM and who is responsible for it?
The Additional Freight for the Merchant Marine Renewal (AFRMM) is an additional charge on freight charged by Brazilian and foreign shipping companies operating in the Brazilian port, according to the bill of lading and cargo manifest. Focuses on long haul navigation, coastal and inland waterway and lake.
The AFRMM is due at the entrance of the port of discharge and must be collected by the consignee of the goods transported or by his legal representative in a bank.
What is multimodal cargo transportation?
Multimodal Cargo Transport is one that uses two or more modalities of transport, is carried out under the sole responsibility of a Multimodal Transport Operator (OTM) and is governed by a single contract.
The OTM is defined as the legal entity, carrier or not, contracted as main for the realization of the Multimodal Carriage of Loads, from origin to destination, by own means or through third parties.
