Grain production grows 4.8% and Conab projects a record harvest of 253.7 million tons.
Grain production for the 2019/20 harvest in Brazil is heading towards the final outcome of yet another record, with the mark of 253.7 million tons. This represents a growth of 4.8% or the equivalent of 11.6 million tons over the production of the past harvest. The flagship of the grains is controlled by soybeans and corn, which guarantee almost 90% of the national production.
The data can be checked at the 11th Grain Survey carried out by the National Supply Company (Conab) and released this Tuesday (11).
With the end close to the harvest of the first and second crop of commodities, the study starts to analyze the third and winter crops, with an eye on the climatic behavior that has been favoring crops until now. Soy has already secured a record production estimated at 120.9 million tons, with a 5.1% gain.
Also, total corn, a record secured by its 102.1 million tons, has already ended the first harvest and is heading towards the end of the second, depending on 1.5% of the contribution of crops grown in the Sealba region (Sergipe, Alagoas and northeast) from Bahia).
Meanwhile, winter crops (oats, canola, rye, barley, wheat and triticale) finish planting this month. The estimate is for growth of 12.1% in the planted area, with emphasis on wheat, which indicates a growth of 14.1% and reach of 2.33 million hectares. Depending on climate aid, production is expected to reach a record 6.8 million tons. Brazil only surpassed the mark of 6 million tons of wheat on 4 occasions in the historical series, this being the largest, if the estimates are confirmed.
The other products that make up the grain chain, such as cotton, rice and beans, are also moving towards the end of the harvest, with a production performance above that produced in the last period. Rice is expected to grow 6.6% and harvest 11.2 million tons. Of these, 10.3 million in irrigated cultivation areas.
In turn, cotton increased by 5.4%, forecasting a production of 2.93 million tons of plume. And the total bean grows 5.4%, reaching 3.18 million tons, depending on the third crop that is in the harvest stage. More than half of this crop (1.9mt) is of the common color species.
Exports
The record-breaking history of the harvest continues. In the case of soybeans, the market indicates a unique export estimate this year, with 82 million tonnes, due to the expectation of high exchange rates and the anticipated negotiations that are taking place.
Rice, too, has good market prospects, with record exports and growth in domestic consumption, which leads to a reduction in the sector’s passing inventory estimates. For the current harvest, with a surplus trade balance estimated at 400 thousand tons and growth in consumption, a high price is projected over the entire marketing period for the new harvest.
