Brazil’s entry into the OECD will contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic recovery, says CNI
In a letter sent to the elected general secretary of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) highlighted the importance of the Organization’s role in the global economic recovery and reiterated the importance of the entry of the Brazil in the forum.
Brazil formally asked to be part of the OECD in 2017 and, since then, it has been expanding the convergence of its standards with the organization’s standards. To give you an idea, of a total of 245 instruments, Brazil has already joined 99, which corresponds to 40% convergence. Other candidate countries have lower adherence rates, such as Argentina (21%), Romania (20%), Peru (18%), Bulgaria (13% and Croatia (11%) and (7%).
In the letter, the president of the CNI, Robson Braga de Andrade, stressed that Cormann is the first representative of the Indo-Pacific region to head the organization and reaffirmed the willingness of Brazilian businesspeople to work together with the OECD. OECD should diversify membership For the CNI, for the economic recovery to take place in an inclusive and increasingly sustainable manner, it is important that the OECD promotes the diversification and geographical expansion of its members, allowing access to countries with different economic and social realities, including Brazil , in order to allow the Organization’s policies and good practices to reach everyone and benefit everyone.
”For us, being in line with OECD standards will allow our country to promote important and necessary adjustments, such as tax reform, political reform and, even, the simplification and modernization of our foreign exchange legislation, which is already under discussion in the National Congress and that will allow Brazil to be part of the OECD Liberalization Codes ”, says Robson Andrade, in the letter.
The president points out that the CNI is actively working to support the Brazilian government in actions that bring us closer to the OECD. In 2018, for example, the Confederation initiated actions to mobilize and raise awareness among Brazilian companies and associations about the importance of the OECD agenda. Now, in 2021, CNI plans to promote a virtual business mission with the OECD and Business at OECD, bringing together CEOs and high-level representatives of Brazilian companies and business associations, so that they can better understand how organizations work and how important it is who are engaged and participating in the discussions.
