Agribusiness exports in April were records for the month, rising for the first time to US $ 10 billion, points out the consultancy Cogo – Inteligência em Agronegócio. “The previous record occurred in April 2013, when exports were US $ 9.65 billion”, he says.

Shipments last month totaled $ 10.22 billion, up 25% from the $ 8.18 billion sold in April 2019.

According to the consultancy, the record was obtained due to the increase in exported volumes, which grew 31% in the comparison between April 2020 and April 2019. “This result was mainly influenced by the increase in the exported volume of soybeans, which it grew 73.4% or 7 million tons ”, he says.

In the context of the international crisis of covid-19, Cogo points out that there was a strong growth in demand for Brazilian soybeans, with anticipation of exports of the product, which led agribusiness external sales to the observed growth. China was the main importer of Brazilian soybeans in April this year.

“This increase coupled with the reduction in demand for other products in the trade balance (-27.1%) helped to increase the share of agribusiness products in the total exported by Brazil, a participation that reached a record level of 55.8%”, he says. In April 2019, the share of agribusiness in the total exported was 42.2%.

The five main export sectors were: soy complex (59.7%), meat (12.6%), forest products (8.9%), sugar and alcohol complex (5.1%) and coffee (4.0%). The group rose from 85.9% stake in April 2019 to 90.3% in April 2020.

“The increase in the participation of the five main sectors is a function of the expressive growth in the participation of the soy complex, which went from 47.2% in April 2019 to 59.7% in April 2020”, he says.
