Agribusiness accounted for more than half of Brazilian exports in July.

Agribusiness foreign sales in July represented 51.2% of the total value exported by the country, totaling US $ 10 billion last month, an increase of 11.7% in relation to the value exported in July 2019.

Imports – According to the Agribusiness Balance Bulletin, released this Wednesday (08/12) by the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SCRI-Mapa), imports, on the other hand, had a decrease of 16.3% reaching US $ 982 million in July. The balance of the balance was US $ 9 billion.

Increase – Important products on the Brazilian agricultural export basket had a considerable increase in the volume sold: soybeans (+ 39.4%), sugar (+ 92.3%), cellulose (+ 35.1%), cotton (+64 , 4%), pork (+ 45.0%) and beef (+ 20.9%).

Soybeans – Soybeans exports reached 10.4 million tons in July this year and generated US $ 3.61 billion in revenues for Brazil. China was the main importer of Brazilian soybeans, registering acquisitions of 7.9 million tons or 75.8% of the amount exported by the grain.

Sugar – External sugar sales increased from US $ 526 million in July 2019 to US $ 964 million in July 2020. An increase of 83.4% in the period under review. The 92.3% increase in the quantity exported, which reached 3.5 million tons in July 2020, contributing to the increase in exports.

Pulp – Pulp exports increased 35.1% in quantity, but the 37.2% drop in the average price of the product meant that there was a reduction in the export value, which stood at US $ 480 million in July 2020 (- 15.2%). Cotton, on the other hand, neither carded nor combed, totaled US $ 107 million, with sales of 77 thousand tons.

Meat – Among meat, pork and beef were the best performers in exports. The 23% beef expansion rose from $ 631 million (July 2019) to $ 776 million in July this year. The increase was mainly due to sales of fresh beef to China, which grew 143.3%, reaching US $ 375.50 million.

Pork – Pork exports increased by 34.2% in value, reaching the figure of US $ 202 million in July 2020. China was also the country responsible for the increase in Brazilian exports, having acquired US $ 106.68 of fresh pork in Brazil in July 2020 (+ 90.3%). Exports of chicken meat decreased in the period under analysis, from US $ 673 million in July 2019 to US $ 490 million in July 2020 (-27.2%).

Buyer countries – As for buyer markets, the growth of almost US $ 1 billion in exports to China explains the expansion of foreign sales in July this year. Sales to the Asian country reached US $ 3.85 billion (an increase of 34.3%) or a 38.4% share of the total value exported by Brazil in agribusiness products.
