Brazilian exports are concentrated in few destinations
Data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) show that the five largest markets for Brazilian products – China, the United States, Argentina, the Netherlands and Chile – accounted for 53.1% of Brazil’s exports in 2018. Brazilian exports are becoming more concentrated in a few destinations.
In 2017, this percentage was 48.9%. And in 2009, this share accounted for 41.7%. In the last five years, this concentration has been increasing. And last year it peaked in 10 years.
One of the main factors responsible for this increase in concentration was the expansion in sales of commodities to China. Last year, exports to the world’s second largest economy grew by 35.2%.
