Coffee produced in Brazil is served and consumed in the United States, Germany and Italy

Did you know that the coffee produced here is served and consumed in the United States, Germany and Italy? That’s right! The list of countries that consume Brazilian coffee is extensive, but these were the main destinations for our coffee between January and July this year.

The data is from the Council of Coffee Exporters in Brazil (Cecafe). According to the organization, the country exported more than 23.5 million bags of coffee in the first seven months of the year.

Only the Santos maritime complex was responsible for exporting 15.7 million bags of coffee in the first half of the year. Being the largest exporter of Brazilian coffee, reaching around 80% of production.

In addition to the Port of Santos, another 20 port complexes drained the coffee produced here. The ports of Rio de Janeiro were responsible for the outflow of 2.4 million bags of coffee. The Port of Vitória (ES) disposed of 1 million bags; while the Paranaguá (PR) and Salvador (BA) complexes appear next.

Curiosities

Data from the International Coffee Organization (OIC, acronym in English) indicate that Brazil is the second largest consumer of the drink in the world, behind only the USA, which consumes 24 million bags annually.

Another curiosity is that coffee is the second most consumed drink in Brazil, second only to water. The importance of the grain is so evident in the country, that the first meal of the day for Brazilians is called breakfast.

In addition to being a delicious drink, a national passion, studies by the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC) show that coffee has cosmetic properties of hydration and protection of the skin against UVB radiation.
