Federal Government zeroes Import Tax on 81 more products to combat Covid-19

The federal government, through the Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) – an interministerial body chaired by the Ministry of Economy – zeroed the Import Tax on 81 more products used to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. The decision, approved at a meeting of the Executive Management Committee of Camex (Gecex), includes inputs for the production of pulmonary ventilators and materials and equipment for medical and hospital use.

Gecex Resolution No. 33/2020, published this Thursday (4/30) in the Federal Official Gazette, covers products classified in 38 codes of the NCM (Mercosul Common Nomenclature). The items were defined in a joint work by Camex with the Federal Revenue Secretariat and the Ministry of Health. With the new list, the number of products that had the import tariff zeroed to combat the pandemic reaches 394.

At the same meeting, Gecex approved Resolution No. 34, to adjust the list of these products – all contained in the single annex to Resolution No. 17, of March 17, 2020, which included the items added by Resolutions No. 22/2020, No. 28 / 2020, Nº 31/2020 and Nº 32/2020.

The changes are due to the need to make adjustments to the numbering of certain ex-capital goods (BK) tariffs, in some specific cases. In addition, in the ex-tariffs of codes NCM 8422.40.90 and 8449.00.80, an adjustment will be made to the nomenclature, as requested by the Special Secretariat for Productivity, Employment and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy (Sepec / ME), in order to make the tax exemption possible. imported equipment for the manufacture of protective masks.
