The State of Santa Catarina had the best performance in history in meat exports in 2019, with total shipment of 1.7 million tons, up 11% compared to 2018, according to the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development.
Revenue grew 19.4% compared to the previous year and reached US $ 3.12 billion. According to the analyst at the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri / Cepa), Alexandre Giehl, the good results are due to the excellent performance of pork and chicken exports, which had the best performances since 1997, when the data started to be analyzed.
Santa Catarina is the largest national pig producer and exports to competitive markets in the world, with China as a major destination. In the last year, the Chinese increased purchases from the State by 88.9%. Chicken meat, the main product exported by the State, had 1.2 million tons shipped, with a turnover of more than US $ 2.2 billion. The main buyers are Japan, China and the United Arab Emirates.
