In all, 19 Brazilian ports had growth in cargo volume last year
According to a survey by the Ministry of Infrastructure, released last month, 19 Brazilian port terminals had an increase in the volume of cargo handled. Among them, is Santarém (PA), which came in first place and had a growth of 30.7%, in 2019. Then, the Port of Itajaí (SC) appears, with an increase of 23.2% in relation to 2018. And, in third place, Porto do Vila do Conde (PA), with a 19.3% increase in the volume of disposed cargo.
According to the survey, solid bulk drove growth in handling at the Port of Santarém and accounted for almost all of the more than 12 million tonnes transported in 2019. The same occurred with the Port of Vila do Conde, where solid bulk accounted for 73% of the total handled last year. Among the products most transported in Itajaí, were wood, derivatives and chicken for export; and plastics, rubbers and chemicals on import.
Among the 19 ports that registered a positive balance, there was a 6.1% growth in handling, which went from 296 million tons disposed of in 2018 to 313 million tons handled in 2019.
