Port of Itajaí registers 150% growth in container handling in the last three years

The Port of Itajaí and the Port Complex as a whole, closed last year, based on the last month and the three-year period (period from December 2016 to December 2019), demonstrating significant advances in general cargo handling, moored scales and historical handling of containers.

In a comparative percentage of the last three years, the triennium (December / 2016 – December / 2019), placed the Port of Itajaí in a historical ranking regarding the movement of TEU’s *, highlighting a significant increase of 150%, reaching the mark of 489,698, in December 2019, against 196,226 TEU’s in December 2016.

At this same level, the numbers were also surprising in terms of the volume of tons and moorings recorded. From 2,054,467 (Dec / 2016), it increased to 5,421,464 tons in December 2019, indicating an increase of 164%. In berthing, the increase was 108%, from 233 vessels in December 2016 to 484 vessels in December 2019.

In December 2019, in comparison with the same month of 2018, in the public port and APM Terminals (leasing company of the Port of Itajaí), 43 ships moored were registered, which represented an increase of 5%. The report also points out that 48,208 TEU’s were handled with an increase of 35% and a record of 508,879 tons, meaning an increase of 24%.
