There is no impact on port operations by coronavirus, says Economy

Ministry technician pointed out that sales of industrial inputs may still be affected, and food exports should suffer less impact.

Brasília – So far, there is no report of impact on port operations in Brazil because of the coronavirus, said on Monday the undersecretary of Foreign Trade Intelligence and Statistics, Herlon Brandão.

“We are monitoring. To the extent that there is an effect on the Chinese economy, like all countries in the world, Brazil can also be affected, ”he said at a news conference.

In this context, Brandão pointed out that food exports would be less affected, while sales of industrial inputs could be impacted.

Europe

In Europe, the vice president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Luis de Guindos, warned against a hasty response to the coronavirus outbreak, even though it has already had a “huge” impact on global markets.

“I think we have to be very cautious. We are in the first phase of this outbreak and we know very little about the characteristics of the virus so far ”, Guindos told the Greek broadcaster ERT in a television interview.
“The coronavirus outbreak is an important element that has had a huge impact on the stock markets and on commodity prices,” said de Guindos. “Markets don’t like uncertainties.”
